M.Phil
(URDU DEPT.)
M.Phil.
in Urdu is a two years degree program consisting of four semesters. There are
six courses in all, of three credit hours each per week i.e. 18 credit hours.
Twelve credit hours are assigned to thesis work which makes the total M.Phil.
program of 30 credit hours.
OBJECTIVES
The program has been
designed with the following Objectives:
1-
To train the students in research methodology and techniques.
2-
To teach the students essentials and fundamentals of criticism and
literary evaluation.
3-
To acquaint the students with the background and development of Urdu
language and literature and the sources of its history.
4-
To widen the students intellectual
horizon by acquainting
them with the features common with other languages and literature.
ELIGIBILITY
FOR ADMISSION
1-
In response to the advertisement in the newspaper, the candidate shall
apply on the prescribed form.
2-
To ensure better student teachers liaison, admission in M.Phil classes
will only be granted to a maximum of 20 Students after a written test of 60
marks and interview of 40 marks on merit. Admission criterion will be as
under:
i).
Marks in M.A. Urdu
100
(Total marks in M.A. will have the weightage of 100 marks)
(ii).
Marks in the written test
60
(iii). Marks in the
interview
40

(Merit will be determined on the basis of marks actually scored out of 200.)
3-
A person holding M.A. degree with at least 45% marks or 2.00 G.P.A. in
the relevant discipline from a Pakistani University or an equivalent degree
from any other recognized university will be eligible for admission to M.Phil
courses.
4-
Admission to M.Phil. (Urdu) will not be open for non-subject
candidates. However, the criterion of related subjects field for eligibility
will be determined by the concerned Department.
5-
Persons working in the Government/ Semi-government or private
institutions may apply. Such candidates shall have to submit "No
Objection Certificate" from the head of the Institution where they
are working.
6-
Maximum age limit for admission will be 30 years, relaxable in special
cases.
STUDENT'S
STATUS
1-
A candidate admitted to M. Phil courses will be a full-time student,
enrolled for on-campus studies.
2-
No student shall get admission in another course of study during
his/her enrolment as M.Phil. student.

Note:
All these courses for class study will require advanced information and
student's involvement in seminars
and group discussions.
THESIS
Thesis
shall be compulsory requirement in M.Phil. studies.
a)
A student who scores minimum 3.0 GPA (or 'B' Aggregate) in the
comprehensive examination shall be allowed to prepare his/her research
synopsis. The synopsis will be presented by the student before the Department
Academic Committee for approval.
b)
Each student shall work under the supervision of a supervisor/guide
appointed for this purpose by the concerned Department. After the approval of
synopsis, a student will write his/her thesis during 3rd and 4th semesters.
c)
The date for the submissi6n of thesis shall be determined by the
Department Academic Committee after 4th semester.
d)
The Board of Examiners for thesis viva-voce shall comprise the Chairman
of the Department, the Internal Examiner, one External Examiner and one
referee approved by the Department Academic Committee.
e)
The Board of Examiners may recommend revision and re-submission of the
thesis in case the thesis is not up to the standard.
f)
The candidate shall submit 6 copies of the thesis according to the
format approved by the college. The thesis which has been accepted shall
become the property of the Government College, Lahore.

Research Journal/Tehqiq Nama
The Department
publishes research journal Tehqiq Nama, subscribed to by the Universities of
the sub-continent and Urdu Postgraduates Departments in the country. It carries research articles of scholars from Pakistan and
abroad.
Majlis-e-Iabal (Literary Society)
Majlis-e-Iqbal is the
literary society of the Department which provides for the creative and
literary pursuits of the students of the college.
It holds its regular meeting and has been center of creative activities
for a long time.
