THESIS
This
is a compulsory requirement for M.Phil. program.
A student who scores minimum 50% marks in aggregate.
In comprehensive examination shall be allowed to prepare his/her
research synopsis for presentation before the Academic Committee for approval.
A
student who fails to score minimum 50% marks in the comprehensive examination
shall be screened out as a failed student. On the recommendation of the
academic committee the student may be given a chance to appear in a re-sit
examination.
Academic
committee shall determine the date for the submission of thesis after IVth
semester. Most probably it will
be the last week of May 2002.
A
Board of Examiners, proposed by the academic committee and approved by the
Board of Studies, will evaluate the thesis in a viva-voce examination of the
student. The minimum requirement
for the approval of thesis is 50% marks.
The Board may recommend a revision and one-time re-submission of the
thesis under the prescribed rules.
ELIGIBILITY
FOR ADMISSION
A
candidates shall be eligible to apply if he/she possesses at least 45% marks
or 2.0 GPA in his/her M.Sc. Statistics
from a recognized university.
Employee
of the Government, Semi-government agencies or of the private institutions
will be eligible to seek admission in the M.Phil Program. Such employee will be required to submit a “No Objection
Certificate” from their employer.
Maximum
age limit for admission will be 30 years relaxable in special cases.

He/She will be a full-time student, enrolled for on-campus studies
ii.
No. students of M.Phil shall undertake admission in another course of study
during
his/her enrollment as M.Phil student.

After
completion of course work (50% marks in aggregate) successfully, candidates
will have to do research work on a specific topic approved by the academic
committee. The candidates are
supposed to submit thesis at the end of academic session without fail.
The degree will be awarded after the approval of the Thesis by the
board of examiners. The minimum
requirement for the degree of M.Phil is 50% marks in aggregate.
Facilities
Library
The
library of Government College Lahore offers a chance to gain easy access to
rare, research and unique topics. The Statistics section holds numerous
updated research journals and publications, catering almost every need
of students doing research or preparing requisite assignments. Students of
M.PhiI. are facilitated to borrow books for 15 days after getting member ship
under library rules. This Section of Library stock almost 1500 books at
present, all valuable and worthwhile. They include "Kendall's Library of
Statistics", "Scham's Series of Statistics", different
dictionaries and encyclopedias.
Research Journal
The Department of Statistics,
Government College, Lahore is publishing a research journal entitled
"Journal of Statistics" since 1993. The editorial board comprises
eminent educationists. The prominent personalities are regular subscribers of
this Journal.
Statistics Society
The Statistics Society was
established in 1987, with the objective to solve the problems of students and
to take active part-in academic as well as co-curricular activities. The
Society has arranged Seminars on different topics by eminent professionalist
in their respective fields. Apart from lectures delivered
by these personalities, the Society also arranges lectures / seminars
by the students of Statistics Department.
Statistics Laboratory
The Department has set-up a
computer Lab. in collaboration with the Physics Department of the College. The
facility of scanner is available. The latest Statistical Packages are also
available in this Lab.
