M. Phil.
(Evening Program)
Government College Lahore
introduced its M. Phil Program in 1999. This
year M. Phil Program is offered in the following subjects to the male and
female candidates:-
Botany, Chemistry, Economics, Mathematics, Physics,
Statistics, Zoology, Persian, English Literature, Political Science & Urdu.
M. Phil classes are held in the evening.

A
person holding M.A./ M.Sc. Degree with at least 50% marks or 2.5 GPA in the
relevant discipline from a Pakistani University or an equivalent Degree from
any other recognized University shall be eligible for admission to M.Phil
courses.
Ř
Admission
to M.Phil shall not be open for ‘non-subject’ candidates.
However the criterion of related subjects/fields for eligibility shall
be determined by the concerned Department.
Ř
Persons
working in the Govern/Semi Government or private Institutions may apply.
Such candidates shall have to submit “No Objection Certificate”
from Head of the Institution where they are working.
Ř
Maximum
age limit for the candidates is 30 years, relaxable in special cases.
ADMISSION CRITERION
Students after admission to the M.Phil courses in the College
shall not be allowed to take admission else here in any other diploma or
degree course.

M. Phil is two years full time program.
Each course is of three credit hours making it 18 credit hours. 12
credit hours are for research/dissertation.
The Whole M.Phil program is of 30 credit hours.

Thesis
Thesis is a compulsory requirement for M.Phil program.
A student who qualifies comprehensive examination shall be allowed to
prepare his/her research synopsis for presentation before the Academic
Committee for approval.
A student who fails to get 70% standard score or minimum
GPA=3.0 in the comprehensive examination shall be screened out as a failed
student. On the recommendation of
the Academic committee he/she may appear in a re-sit examination.
The Academic Committee shall determine the date for the
submission of thesis after 4th semester.
A Board of Examiners, proposed by the academic committee and
approved by the Board of Studies, will evaluate the thesis in a viva-voce
examination. The score for approval of thesis is 3.0 grade points (B Grade).
The Board may recommend a revision and one-time re-submission
of the thesis under the prescribed rules.
It is a self-funding program of the Deparments offering
M.Phil courses. The fee structure
has been designed to place minimum possible burden on students while
simultaneously meeting all expenses involved in running such a high level
program. The fee structure is as

(a)
A person holding M. Phil Degree may be allowed to be
registered for Ph.D.program if he/she possesses at least 3.0 GPA/ ’B’
Grade in his/her M. Phil degree, from an institution/university recognized in
Pakistan.

Candidates for Ph. D. program.
(c)
In very exceptional cases an M.A./M.Sc. degree holder of a
Pakistani University with exceptional and high quality research publications
to his credit may be allowed to register himself/herself for his/her P.D.
program. Provided two eminent experts (referees) recommend his/her candidature
for Ph.D. Degree. This
recommendation shall have to be approved by the Advanced Studies and Research
Board.
(d)
A person holding an M.Sc. Degree with First Division/3.0
GPA/’B’ Grade shall also be eligible to apply if he/she possesses at least
five years whole-time research experience in a R & D organization
recognized in Pakistan, with two research papers published in journals of
international repute.
2. Admission
to Ph.D. program shall not be open for ‘non-subject’ candidates.
3. Persons working in the Government /Semi Government or private institutions may
apply for Ph.D. program. Such candidates shall have to submit ‘No Objection
Certificate”
from head of the Institution where they are working.
4. Maximum
age limit for admission shall be 40 years, relaxable in special cases.
5. A “Notification of Registration” of a candidate approved for admission to Ph.D.
program
shall be issued by the College Registrar.
6. The minimum period for completion of Ph.D. program shall be three years
extendable
to five years.
