M. PHIL IN PERSIAN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE (Evening Program)

Program Structure

1st Semester 3 core courses (3 Cr. Hrs. each 9 Cr. Hrs.
2nd Semester 2 Core + 1 Optional Course 9 Cr. Hrs.
3rd Semester M.Phil Thesis 12 Cr. Hrs.
  Total Credit Hours 30 (Minimum)

Note:  All these courses for class student will require advanced research and students involvement in seminars and group discussion.

Theses

Theses shall be a compulsory requirement in M.Phil studies.

A student who scores Minimum 3.0 GPA (or ‘B’ Aggregate) in the comprehensive examination shall be allowed to prepare his/her research synopsis.  The synopsis will be presented by the student before the Academic Committee for approval.

After the approval of synopsis, a student will write his/her thesis during 3rd and 4th Semester under the supervision of a supervisor/guide  appointed by the Chairman of the Department.

The date for the submission of thesis shall be determined by the Chairman and the Academic Committee after 4th Semester.

The Board of Examiners for thesis viva-voca shall comprise of the Chairman of the Department as the Convener, as well as the internal Examiner (research advisor) and External Examiner of the student.  In addition, two referees will also be appointed for report the thesis.  The examiner and the referees will be appointed  by the Chairman with the approval of the board of Studies.

The Board of Examiners will evaluate the thesis on the basis of student’s participation in seminars/group discussions, the reports of the referees as well as the viva-voca examination of 200 marks.

The Board may recommend revision and one-time resubmission of the thesis under the prescribed rules.  The submission of the thesis under the prescribed rules.  The Academic Committee’s approval in this regard will be final.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSIONS

The title of the course will be M. Phil in Persian Language and Literature.  A candidate shall be eligible to apply if he/her Masters or an equivalent thereof from a university/institution recognized in Pakistan.

Admission to M.Phil in Persian Language and Literature will not be open for ‘non-subject’ candidates.

Persons employed by the government/Semi-government agencies will also be eligible to seek admission in M.Phil program.  The condition, however, will be that he/she must fulfill the required qualifications.

Such employees of government/Semi-government agencies will also be required to submit a ‘No-Objection’ certificate from their employer to be enrolled as a full time student in this 2-year program.

Maximum age limit for admission will be 30 years, relaxable in certain special cases.

Financial Assistance

A deserving student may be granted stipend/fee concession/financial assistance on the recommendation of the department.

Student Status

He/She will be a full-time student, enrolled for on campus studies.

No student of M.Phil shall take admission in another course of study during his/her enrollment as a bonafide student of the college.  He/She shall not get employment during his/her studies.  However, the condition about employment will be applicable to the candidates who has submitted “No Objection” certificate.

Seminar Library

The Department of Persian has some rare books as well as a very rich collection of the latest books on Persian Language and Literature published in Iran.  The Department also provides facilities of Micro Film Reader and Photostat Machine for research works.

Research Journal

The Department published its research journal “Kawish” which is ell received by research scholars in Pakistan a well as abroad.

Majlls-e-Tehqeeq-o-Taleef-e-Farsi

Majlis-e-Tehqeeqo-Taleef-e-Farsi has undertaken important research projects and has published a number of books on Persian Language and Literature.  These publications have research value and have been appreciated even by Iranian scholars.
