M.PHIL. IN CHEMISTRY (Evening Program) 

ELEGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION

 a- 5.1 In response to the advertisement in the newspapers, the candidate shall apply on the prescribed form.

b- 5.2 To ensure better student teachers liaison, admission in M.Phil classes will only be granted to a maximum of 20 students after a written test of 60 marks and interview of 40 marks on merit.  Admission criterion will be as under:

 (i)  Marks in M.Sc. Chemistry

      Total marks in M.Sc. will have weightage

(ii) Marks in the written test

(iii) Marks in the interview

     Total Marks

(Merit will be determined on the basis of actually scored out of 200)

 c- A person holding M.Sc. degree with at least 45% marks or 2.00 G.P.A in M.Sc Chemistry from a Pakistani University or an equivalent degree from any other recognized University will be eligible for admission to M.Phil courses.

d- Admission to M.Phil (Chemistry) will not be open for non-subject candidates.  However, the criterion of related subjects/field for eligibility will be determined by the Department of Chemistry.

e- Persons working in the government/Semi-Government or private intuitions may apply.   Such candidates shall have to submit “No Objection Certificate” fro the Head of the Institution where they are working.

f- Maximum age limit for admission will be 30 years, relaxable in special cases. Student Status

g- 6.1 A candidates admitted to M. Phil courses will be a full time student, enrolled for on-campus studies.

h- 6.2 No student get admission in another course of study during his/her enrollment as M.Phil student.

Thesis

CHEM-899 Research and Seminars Thesis

 Thesis

1- Thesis shall be compulsory requirement in M. Phil studies.

2- A student who scores minimum 3.00 GPA (or “B” Aggregate) in the comprehensive examination shall be allowed to prepare his/her research synopsis.  The synopsis will be presented by the student before the Department Academic Committee for approval.

3- Each student shall work under the supervision of a supervisor/guide appointed for this purpose by the concerned Department.  After the approval of synopsis, a student will write his/her thesis during 3rd and 4th semesters.

4- The date for the submission of thesis shall be determined by the Department Academic Committee after 4th semester.

5- The Board of Examiners for thesis viva-voce shall comprise the Chairman of the Department, the Internal Examiner, one External Examiner and one referee approved by the Department Academic Committee.

6- The Board of Examiners may recommend revision and resubmission of the thesis in case the thesis is not up to the standard.

7- The candidate shall submit 6 copies of the thesis according to the format approved by the college. The thesis which has been accepted shall become the property of the Government College, Lahore.

FACILITIES

LIBRARY

Library in the Chemistry Department contains extensive collection of books, journals and other research material. The library is rich in Physical, Inorganic, Organic, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry and Applied Chemistry Books. In the main library of the college computing facilities include networked PCs linked to wide range of software, communication and print services. There is open-access to the internet and links to a broad base information network connecting many national and international universities. Many study places for reading are available in main Library and also help for more effective use of information resources.

LABORATORIES

New Postgraduate Chemistry block contains well equipped Laboratories in the disciplines of Physical, Inorganic, Organic, Bio, Analytical and Applied Chemistry. There is one separate advanced research Laboratory. An air-conditioned well equipped modern instrument room caters to the needs of research students. Most modern instruments like FTIR, FTHINMR and HPLC, UV spectrophotometer have been set in operation which provide the latest facilities for research work.
