Note: The academic session starts in September and concludes in May every year.
Reserved Seats for Overseas Pakistani Children
In addition to the seats for admission to the M.A./M.Sc. Classes on merit, 2 seats per post graduate department have been allocated in the Government College, Lahore for the Overseas Pakistani Expertise or children of parents working in a foreign country for the session 2001-2002.
Terms and Conditions
General conditions for admission against the seats reserved for Overseas Pakistani children shall be the same as laid down for the candidates applying for admission to the M.A./M.Sc. class in this College on open merit. They should, however, fulfil the following conditions:
a- Eligibility
i) They should have obtained at least second class marks in B.A/B.Sc. Examination and in the subject in which admission is sought.
ii) Only those candidates will be eligible for admission who have passed their B.A/B.Sc. in Ist annual 1999 or Ist or IInd annual 1998.
iii) The candidates should not be above 26 years of age on the last date of the submission of admission form.
iv) Their parents must be Pakistanis working/engaged in business in a foreign country.
v) In case a candidate's father is employed in a foreign country, he/she should submit a certificate to the effect from his employer. The specimen is attached with the admission form which should be submitted along with the admission form. In case a candidate's father is engaged in business in a foreign country, he should produce a document that he has business in a foreign country.
b- Admission Procedure
vi) The candidates should write in Red ink "Overseas Pakistani" on the top of the admission form.
vii) Three attested copies of the recent passport size photographs should be attached with the application form alongwith the following documents:
a) Photocopies of the Certificates
b) Character Certificate from the institution, last attended.
c) The proof of candidate's parents being Overseas Pakistani.
d) The proof of employment or business in a foreign country.
e) Father's National Identity Card.
f) Applicant's National Identity Card.
viii) The candidate after admission shall have to pay the same as fee paid by the foreign students i.e. Rs.50,000/- per year.
ix) The candidate applying on this basis, shall apply for admission direct to the College alongwith the other candidates. They need not apply through the Federal Ministry of Education Islamabad as the Foreign Students should do.
x) Application forms complete in all respects should be deposited in United Bank Limited, Government College Lahore branch.
xi) These candidates shall have to appear and qualify the test and interview conducted by the concerned department alongwith the other candidates applying on general merit. However, the merit of this category of applicants will be determined from amongst the candidates applying on the basis of Overseas Pakistani Children.
Admission on "Self Supporting Basis"
In addition to the seats for admission to M.A/M.Sc. classes on merit, some seats have been reserved on Self Supporting Basis as per following details.

Terms and Conditions
a- Eligibility
1- The eligibility of the candidates seeking admission on "Self Supporting Basis" will be the the same as laid down for the candidates applying to the 5th year class in this college on open merit.
b- Admission Procedure
2- The application form complete in all respects will be deposited in the United Banks Ltd. Govt. College Lahore Branch.
3- The candidates shall have to qualify the test and interview conducted by the Department concerned.
4- The admission will be made from amongst the applicants on "Self Supporting Basis".
5- The Final admission will be subject to the approval of the College Admission Committee.
6- Each applicant shall enclose a pay Order of value of the Rs.50000/- with his / her prescribed application form in favour of the Treasurer Govt. College Lahore. The counterfoil of the Pay Order must be retained by the applicant for production at the time of admission.
b- Refund
7- Refund of unsuccessful candidates may be obtained from Mr. Riaz-ul-Haq Awan, The Treasurer, after presentation of counterfoil of the Pay Order along with the I.D. Card of the candidates and of the Father/Guardian. For refund, the bank account number of Father/Guardian and name of the Bank with details should be mentioned in the application form.
8- Refund shall be made to unsuccessful candidates after 15 days of the completion of the admission process on "Self Supporting Basis"
Note:- hostel accommodation is limited and may be given if available.
Reserved Seats for Candidates from Fata
Two seats (one for Botany and one for Zoology) have been reserved for Fata Candidates. Applications will be invited for these two seats along with the candidates on open merit. Admission on these two seats will be made on the basis of admission test and interviews. The merit of Fata Candidates against the two reserved seats will be determined from amongst the Fata Candidateswho have qualified the test and interview.
2. Rules and Regulations for Admission
Admission to the above mentioned class is granted strictly in accordance with the rules and policy of the college which state;
(i) Admission shall be open to
both male and female candidates.
(ii) The following shall be eligible for admission:
(a) Those who are not above 26 years of age on the last date of receipt of applications.
(b) Those who have passed B.A/B.Sc.
examination in the 2000 or 2001
(c) Those who have obtained at least 45% marks in the aggregate as well as
in the subject at the degree level in which admission is being sought or in
the allied subject of the following Departments.

(d) Those who have not been admitted to M.A./M.Sc. in the previous year in any College/Department of the University.
(iii) Admission to the M.A./M.Sc. Part-l shall be made on merit determined on the basis of 200 marks counted as under:
(i) Marks obtained in the University examination in the subject concerned divided by two = 100.
(ii) Credit for divisions obtained in the public examinations i.e. Matric, Intermediate, and B.A./B.Sc. calculated according to the following formula:(15 marks)
a) First Division 5 marks
b) 2nd Division 3 marks
c) 3rd Division 2 marks
(iii) Marks obtained in the
Departmental written test (60 marks)
(iv) Marks obtained in the
Interview/viva voce (25 marks)
(v) All the eligible candidates alongwith the candidates who are waiting for their results in B.A./B.Sc. 1999 and are allowed provisionally to apply for admission to M.A./M.Sc. shall have to appear in the written test and interview to be conducted by the concerned departments. Only those candidates will be called for interview who have qualified written test i.e. 33% marks in the test. The list of eligible candidates for test and interview will be displayed by the respective Chairman on the department notice board before the test and interview.
Note: The test for admission to M.A/M.Sc. will be conducted by the concerned department once only on the announced date and time. No second test will be given in any case. A candidate who does not appear in the written test shall not be considered for admission
Note: In cases of candidates who are waiting for their B.A./B.Sc. result, merit for their admission to M.A./M.Sc. will be determined after the submission of their B.A./B.Sc. result. Such candidates shall have to submit their result within five days after the declaration of B.A/B.Sc. result bv the Punjab University.
3- Attendance and Leave Rules
Attendance Rules are strictly observed in the College. Attendance requirements are as follows:
i) In a year 80% lectures per course/paper. A student who has less than the required number of lectures (80%) will have to repeat the course/papers.
ii) A student who remains absent for three or more days in a month continuously or otherwise his/her name will be dropped from the college rolls. He/She may apply for re-admission but the applications must be submitted within due date (mentioned in the struck off notification).
iii) Leave can only granted on medical grounds.
iv) Leave application of a student will have to be recommended and forwarded by the College Medical Deputy Registrar (Academics-II) in the Admission Office.
v) In cases of Emergency such as death or marriage of near ones the leave application would be referred to the Hardship Cases Committee.
vi) Leave can only be sanctioned on the prescribed pages of the leave book. Leave book can be obtained from the attendance clerk at the cost of Rs. 10/- each.
vii) Duty leave will only be granted by the Deputy Registrar (Academic-II) on the recommendation of the Incharge of a game/society. Such recommendation must be sent to the Deputy Register (Academic-II) by the Incharge of a game/society before a student proceeds for participation in game/co-curricular activity. No such recommendation shall be accepted after the participation of a student in the game/co-curricular activity.
viii) Fine of absence at the rate of Rs. 10/- per period shall be levied on the postgraduate Students.
4- Re-Admission
i- The name of a student will be dropped from College Rolls if he remains absent in a subject for 3 days or more in a month, continuously or otherwise.
ii- A student whose name has been dropped from the College Rolls due to:
a) Non-payment of dues.
b) Not appearing in the College tests
c) Remaining absent from classes fro three or more days in a month, continuously or otherwise, may be allowed re-admission provided he applies for re-admission within due date (mentioned in the struck off notification).
iii- The re-admission fee will be Rs. 2000/-
iv- In case he does not apply within the prescribed period his admission will be cancelled and his application for re-admission will not be considered.
v- If for some reasons the re-admitted student's name is dropped from the college rolls again. he will not be eligible for a second re-admission. IN OTHER WORDS, RE-ADMISSION CAN BE GRANTED ONLY ONCE.
Identity Card
All students must get their Identity Cards from Mr. Shaukat Ali Assistant Registrar.
A Fine of Rs. 50/- shall be payable if the Identity Card is not applied for with in the time limit.
The students are required to Keep their Identity Cards with them all the time in the College and to produce them on demand by a teacher. For travelling purpose a a separate Identity Card is also issued by the College office. At the time of withdrawal of security, a student has to deposit the college Identity Card with the college office.
A fine of Rs. 50/- will be payable if a student is found without the College Identity Card in the College.
If an Identity Card is lost, a duplicate card will be issued for Rs. 100/-
At the time of leaving the College, or in case of student being dropped off the rolls, Identity Card must be deposited with the College office.
College Leaving Rules
Until their names are formally withdrawn, students are liable to pay College fees, dues and all fines incurred during the session. A student who wishes to leave the college, shall apply to the Principal in writing along with the counter signature by his/her father/guardian. No College leaving clearance certificate shall be issued to a student, who fails to clear his/her accounts with the College office, libraries, cafeteria and hostel.
Scholarships
Government/University/Board, Local bodies and all other scholarships are available in this College. Scholarships out of Provincial Zakat Fund are also available for Muslim students only during the course of their study.
Fee Concession
The Principal is empowered to remit half of the tuition fee of a limited number of deserving students.
Applications for fee concession shall be made on the prescribed form obtainable from the College Cashier/Suptt. after admission duly countersigned by father/guardian.
Students enjoying half fee concession are liable to have their concession withdrawn, if their progress in the class is considered to be unsatisfactory.
FINANCIAL AID TO THE BRIGHT & DESERVING STUDENTS
Liberal financial assistance is Provided to the bright and deserving students. During the session 1998-1999 about 2.6 million rupees were distributed among these students. This year too liberal financial assistance would be provided to the deserving & bright students. Such students are advised to contact the Treasurer of the College in this connection.

Payments of Fee and Other dues
1- The College dues (funds and other dues) must be paid on the dates notified by the College.
2- If a student fails to pay dues by the specified date he/she will be fined Rs. 50/- per Day.
3- In case he/she fails to pay the dues one week after the last date for payment of dues, his/her name will struck off the college Rolls and if he/she is allowed re-admission he/she will have to deposit Rs. 2000/- as re-admission fee.
4- For re-admission he/she will submit the application with in 15 days after his/her name was struck off the college roll. No application will be entertained after the expiry of this period. The excuse of being on leave or absent from the College will not be considered.
5- Immediately after admission, students will be required to pay the following dues for the period May to October.

Hostel Facilities
The Postgraduate male students are eligible for residence in New Hostel. This hostel is situated across the road.
There is also a hostel for female students, which is situated near the Punjab Civil Secretariat. This place is not very far from the College Campus.
The accommodation facilities in both the Hostels are limited. Consequently, the Hostel administration has to admit students on the basis of academic merit.
A student desiring admission to the hostel should obtain a prescribed from on payment from the respective hostel. He/She should submit this form in the hostel office duly completed within time limit notified by the hostel administration. The names of the successful candidates will be displayed on the hostel notice board.
Membership to the hostel mess is compulsory. In case a resident has to go out of Lahore/Hostel at meal time, he/she may be exempted from membership.
Mess Charges are calculated on no profit/ no loss basis and are distributed among the residents in accordance with formula devised by the administration.
All the residents are required to pay their hostel dues up to the 10th of each month. Defaulters may be asked to vacate the hostel.
The hostel admn. i.e. Warden/Superintendent has the right to expel a resident from the hostel in case of the violation of the rules.
Meetings of any kind, formation of unauthorized societies and playing of music is not allowed in the rooms or hostel premises.
In all matters concerning the hostels, decisions of the hostel administration shall be final.
Transport
Transport facilities are available for the students on payment on some routes. As the seats are limited, passes are issued on first come first serve basis. The payment will be made on yearly (academic year Sept to May) or quarterly basis for availing the facility. Passes are issued by the Transport Officer of the College. Student may contact the Transport Office in this connection.
Attention
The students ate advised to contact Prof. Ashraf Shabir Bukari (Deputy Controller General) in Controller's Office in connection with the attestation/issuance of the following certificates:
1- Admission Form for Medical Colleges.
2- Admission Form for Engineering Universities/Colleges.
3- Form for recruitment in Armed Forces/Police etc.
4-Form for admission abroad.
5- Expectancy Certificate for Armed Forces/Police etc for recruitment.
6- Character Certificate issued by the Chairman of Department.
7- Admission in other institutions during study in college is not allowed.
