Govt. College University Libraries

Libraries plays a vital role in providing up to date information and help keep abreast with the changing times. The Library of Government College Lahore dates back to 1872.  The library building was extended in 1964 and 1999. The library holds a collection of over 1,55,893 bound volume books. The library also holds a number of special collections and archives including Sufi Ghulam Mustafa Tabassum, Dr. Khalid Aftab, Dr.  Ebadat Bralvi, Mirza Maqboll Baig Bdakshani, Sardar Karim Nawaz, Muzaffar Ali Syed, and Prof. Razi Wasti etc.

 

Apart from the Central Library (Fazl-e-Hussain Library), a new postgraduate library has started functioning in 1999 and is capable of accomodating nearly 400 readers at a time in modern air conditioned surroundings. Most of the books in GC Library can be openly accessed and borrowed for two weeks at a time except for certain rare and valuable books. The Central and Postgraduate library is fully computerized providing e-mail, internet and software package facilities to the students/ users.

 

The college has recently established a virtual library, which is first ever of its kind in Pakistan. The library provides audio and video services to students/users in accordance to their course requirements. Careers Education, Advisory Services for Studies Abroad, Photocopy services are also available in the library.

 

The library remains open six days a week almost throughout the year. Evening library service is also available to the students in the newly established Postgraduate Library.
