DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY The Department of Psychology, Government College, Lahore is the oldest institution in the Subcontinent offering Post-Graduate studies in Psychology. Post-Graduate classes in Psychology started in the late 20's in collaboration with F.C. College. The Department of Psychology emerged as an independent entity in 1962, under the guidance of Dr. Muhammad Ajmal, as until that time, the Departments of Psychology and Philosophy were jointly chaired. The following served as Heads of the Department from time to time.

The Department has been vibrant with research activity in the field of Psychology. Many research works, especially a research project entitled "Relative Importance of Incentive for Work Motivation" awarded by U.G.C. and another "Guide for Exceptional Children" given by Ministry of Education have been conducted. The Department has been holding "Mental Health" weeks regularly for the last 12 years. The Department brings out its research journal "Psychology Quarterly".
The department has a tradition of holding seminars and workshops on issues of national importance. Last year the distinguished scholar Prof. Sayyed Hossein Nasr delivered a lecture on "Muslim Psychology". The department also hosted the first Muslim Psychological Conference.
