During its long history, the Department has continued to be one of the most important centers of Philosophical learning in South Asia, especially noted for the promotion of the spirit of free inquiry and critical thinking. At the beginning of 21st Century, however, it has been realized that in order to give a boost to the spirit of philosophical creativity, radically new opportunities of philosophical learning and research should be made available to all candidates aspiring to study philosophy. Benefiting from the immense pedagogic potentials, inherent in the academic autonomy of the College, it has been decided, that admission to M.A. Philosophy Classes would be open for all B.A., B.Sc. Candidates irrespective of the fact whether they have studied philosophy at the graduate level or not. They however, will have to quality the aptitude test for philosophy.
Secondly many new and revised syllabi are being introduced in the light of contemporary vision of philosophy, not only as theoretical wisdom but also interdisciplinary discourse and explanatory practice.
