DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY

History as a subject was introduced in the College in 1864. Teachers of the caliber of Professor Garrett established the Department on sound footings. Post graduate classes started in the College in 1965. Before that, as in the case of several other disciplines, M.A. History classes were held in the Punjab University.

The following teachers served the Department as Heads at various times, since the inception of Pakistan.

Prof. Mian Namdar Khan Prof. Dr. Abdul Hamid
Prof. M. Amjad Butt Dr. S. Razi Wasti
Dr. Farhat Mahmood Prof. S. Masood Raza Rizvi

Prof. M. Amjad Butt and Dr. Razi Wasti alternated as Chairmen of the Department between 1963 - 90. Both served the Department with grace and dedication. The tradition was continued by Dr. Farhat Mehmood and Prof. Syed Masood Raza Rizvi as Chairman of the Department from 1990 to 1996 and 1996 to 1999 respectively.
