DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH The Department of English enjoys the distinction of being the oldest postgraduate Department of English in the country. lt started in the later half of the 19th century. It was at first affiliated to the Calcutta University and later with the University of the Punjab, which was established in 1882. In 1908 the Department effected an arrangement with Forman Christian College, Lahore for co-operative teaching which lasted for 2 decades until 1928, when the two departments chose to go their separate ways. Some of the great names in the country have been associated with the Department as students and teachers. |
